９月の消費者物価指数では、ガソリンが前年比３４％、ディーゼル燃料などが６１％上昇したというのです。これでは、共和党政権への不満が高まるはずです。
デイリー新潮の藤氏の寄稿では、こうした物価高に対して、トランプの支持基盤であった白人福音派の支持も、大幅に低下していると書かれています。さらに、氏は、白人福音派の投票意欲が回復しない限り、共和党が中間選挙で勝利するのは困難だと言わざるを得ないとまで書いています。ちなみに、白人福音派は、米国総人口の１３％に過ぎないそうですが、全投票者の２割を占めると言われているそうです。

まあ、その辺のことは、米国の国内問題です。過去の経験を生かして、しっかりとした対応をしてほしいものです。下院では、議員の過半数の賛成によって、大統領の弾劾訴追が可能になります。選挙結果（勿論、共和党が敗北した場合）について、トランプが、あれこれと策動をするようであれば、すぐにでも、弾劾訴追（弾劾裁判）を行うべきです。
なお、２３日の毎日新聞４面の記事によると、米国では、スポーツなどの動向を予測して賭ける「予測市場」と呼ばれるサイトが盛んだそうですが、中間選挙関係の賭けでは、現在は、「上下両院で、民主党が多数派に」というベット（賭けの対象）が、いちばん支持されているようです。
次は、日本の原発の問題です。使用済み核燃料の置き場所が、問題になっています。同じく２３日の毎日新聞、７面の記事を参考にさせてもらいます。日本では、２０１１年３月に、東部方面で、大地震、大津波の自然災害が起こり、その影響で、福島第一原発において、重大な破壊事故が起こりました。その原発の事故処理は、ほとんど進展していないという状況です。ここでは、現在は稼働されている関西電力という会社の３原発７基の使用済み核燃料の置き場所の問題について、書きたいと思います。原発での核燃料は、１単位が、４～５年で、使用期限が終わるそうです。そうすると、以後は、安全な場所に保管することになります（使用済み核燃料は、人が近寄ると、数十秒で死亡するくらい、危険なものだそうです）。ところが、この関西電力の３原発の使用済み核燃料の置き場所は、まもなく、置く場所がなくなってしまうというのです。そこで、関西電力では、青森県という遠く離れた県に置かせてくれと頼んでいるそうです。この青森県には、使用済み核燃料の処理を行い、再利用が可能になる工場の建設が進められているのですが、なんと、当初は、１９９７年の完成予定が、２０２６年の現在になっても、まだ、できていないのです。これまで、２７回にわたって、「完成」が延期されてきたのです。ですから、事実上、「完成は、無理だ」という状態なのでしょう。
ところが、青森県内のむつ市には、使用済み核燃料の「一時的保管場所」として、「中間貯蔵施設」が造られたのです。そして、現在は、東京電力と日本原子力発電が、使用済み核燃料を置いているというのです。あと、どの程度の置き場所があるのかは、公にされていないようです。そこで、関西電力も、置かせてほしいとむつ市や青森県に頼んでいるのですが、市も県も、「ノー」と断っているわけです。市や県にしても、「永久の置き場所」になりかねないのですから、断るのは、当然のことでしょう。３０年が過ぎたのか、過ぎようとしているのか分かりませんが、なお再処理工場ができない「日本の技術力の貧困」を嘆くしかないのでしょうか。どこか、技術的に援助してくれる国は、ないのでしょうか。また、日本のいくつかの国立大学、公立大学では、「原子力工学」を学ぶところ（科としては、ないらしいが）もあるはずですが、そこの教授、准教授、研究生、学生等々も、なんとか力になれないのでしょうか。
最後は、プログラミング言語と言われるＰＨＰについてです。これも、同じく２３日の毎日新聞の１面、３面の記事を参考にさせてもらいます。私などは、ＰＨＰと言うと、昔の松下電機のＰＨＰを思い出すのですが、今は、ネット関係のＰＨＰなのですね。
ＰＨＰとは、Personal Home Page Tools という、「サイトのアクセス履歴を管理するプログラム」だそうです。１９９５年に公開されたそうです。「会員にサービスを提供する機能なども作りやすく 、電子商取引サイトやメールフォームなどに使われている」そうです。
まあ、会社などの案内とか、簡単な申し込みなどによく使われているということでしょう。勿論、個人のホームページなどでも、使われているのでしょう。「世界のウェブサイトの６９．３％で使用されている」というのです。
このサイトには、欠陥があって、「悪意ある集団が攻撃した場合、小規模なシステムではわずか数秒、複雑なシステムでも数時間でハッキング」されるということなのでしょう。（以上、「 」内は、すべて毎日新聞よりの引用）
